The Carlos Project
While on my first mission trip to an impoverished country I met a servant of the Lord who would stop me and take my guitar and gear out of my hands to carry it for me.
After a few days of this, and always making sure that I had water to drink because it was in the nineties INSIDE the church, he handed me a baggie that was hot. As I investigated the contents, I found five fresh tortillas for my dinner.
I was told that my new friend and brother in Christ, Carlos, had a tortilla shop. And that he and his family worked all week making and selling tortillas, and at the end of the week profited $3.00.
This broke my heart. And the Lord prompted me to ask him what, if anything, he would do to change or improve his business. He relunctantly shared a few things that would help, including a new stove so that he didn't have to continue renting the existing one, a door and some tables and chairs.
With the help of an interpretor we figured out that the items would cost 5,000 Cordobas. I said, "That sounds like a lot of money." When we did the math, it came to $92.00. I gave him $120.00 and the look on his face was as if I had just handed him $40,000.00.
We have since poured more money into his business to the point where his is helping to feed older people in the community who are unable to work, and thus unable to buy food.
The Original Tortilla Shop
Carlos said to me "See that piece of wire? That's the door."The Renovation
New wall and roof materials were installed. The new (to them) stove brought a lot of smiles.
And our gift to Carlos enabled him to buy a cooler
for frescoes and eggs to sell for breakfast.
Back in Business
The newly renovated tortilla shop was back in business.Plenty of hot fresh tortillas were being served.
One very satisfied customer is the beloved Pastor David Garcia.
Testimonies
Carlos' Testimony
We have three years of having the tortilla business when we started everything went well. When the pandemic hit, then we were not able to pay many business debts with banks.
We did not sell anything even to pay for what we worked. We almost closed the business, but we were always praying to God. Then we had to move around, looking to sell more tortillas, and always praying every day. My prayers were like this: God send an angel to help us build the business so as not to close it and be able to pay outstanding debts. Every day I prayed even though we were going through a crisis.
Yadira's Testimony
But at the moment of when God says to fight, we continued fighting without lowering our guard. We fought against all odds.
Until the angel that I prayed for every day came to visit my church. He came to visit the Centro de Fe Esperansa y Amor and gave a concert. Later we met more thoroughly, and I told him about our business, and when he was leaving, he met with the pastors of the church and told me that we needed to expand our business.
With a little regret gave him a list and I said in my mind this It is the angel who we prayed to God to send us. Amen, Amen, I said.
And my brother Bob blessed me to pay the bank money that we still owed and then he traveled to his country and then he blessed us more to buy a blender to sell frescos, a coffee maker to sell coffee, and to buy plastic tables and chairs.
We now sell food sour milk curds, tortillas, frescos, fresh coffee, and cheese. Our business is growing every day, thanks to God.
Thank God, and now my brother Bob, the angel who came from New York to my country Nicaragua. Soon we will have a frescoe stand on the main street thanks to my God and my brother Bob. Blessings. God is faithful.
